IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has termed the country’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules a potential “global template.”   Vaishnav emphasized the ability of  DPDP rules to balance fostering innovation with robust regulation in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He also highlighted how this inclusive approach created a flexible and adaptable framework.   Criticizing the European Union’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) for stifling innovation, Vaishnaw remarked, “Even at Davos, a senior leader said this is the template the world will follow now—not the GDPR anymore. US President Donald Trump has warned business barons at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that they will face tariffs if they make their products abroad. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Trump said, “My message to every business in the world is very simple, come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth...   Alex Cullen has left Nine following a controversy over accepting a $50,000 gift from billionaire Adrian Portelli, Mediaweek reported. The incident occurred after Cullen jokingly referred to Portelli as “McLaren Man” during a segment on Today. Portelli, who wanted to shed his “Lambo Guy” image, offered the money to the first journalist to call him that. After the exchange, Nine took disciplinary action sidelining Cullen and requesting the money be returned. Following a review, the network confirmed Cullen's departure citing breaches of policies regarding third-party commercial arrangements. Nine also reminded its staff about these policies.  Cullen's exit marks the end of his five-year tenure with the Today Show with colleague Karl Stefanovic describing him as a "terrific fella" and expressing regret over his departure. Portelli later donated the $50,000 to charity on behalf of Cullen according to his instagram post.

In one of the most high-profile and closely tracked lawsuits on AI use in India, OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence research organisation headed by Sam Altman, has claimed that any order to remove training data for their product ChatGPT would breach US laws. This was in response to a suit filed by Asian News International, a leading news agency in India, for violating its intellectual property rights, Reuters reported.   ANI filed a lawsuit against the US AI giant in November 2024, accusing it of using its published content to train its chatbot without consent. The news agency is seeking INR 20 million for the damages.   OpenAI had previously responded to the Court that it would not use ANI’s content anymore.
