By Pragadish Kirubakaran, Abdul Nishad and Neeraja Gopalakrishnan in Media News on
Image source: Deccan Herald, TOI and IE; Edited by Dinesh Raj M   US President Donald Trump has unleashed a fresh wave of trade turbulence by doubling tariffs on Indian imports to 50 per cent, citing India’s continued oil trade with Russia.  Hot off the Press The move, detailed in reports by The Times of India's Chidanand Rajghatta, The Hindu's T.C.A. Sharad Raghavan and Hindustan Times' Shashank Mattoo, has sent shockwaves across diplomatic and economic corridors. The new tariff, coming in two phases (one immediate, another from August 27), is framed as a response to what Trump describes as a "national security threat" linked to India’s purchase of Russian oil. However, the MEA has rebuffed this claim as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable," highlighting hypocrisy in the US stance given its own ongoing trade with Russia, including nuclear fuel and precious metals. The Hindu's coverage emphasises the disproportionate blow to Indian exporters, especially in sectors li

Mic in One Hand, Baby in the Other: Journalist Pramila Krishnan on Reporting Through Motherhood

By Neeraja Gopalakrishnan in Media News on
When Pramila Krishnan returned to field reporting with a baby in her arms and a nanny in tow, she wasn’t just telling stories—she was living one. Sleepless nights, feeding breaks mid-interview, and a camera crew that learned to pause when her child cried: this was the newsroom, remixed by motherhood. A seasoned multimedia journalist from Tamil Nadu, Pramila spoke to Influencing Insider during Breastfeeding Week about navigating identity, journalism, and the fierce recalibration that comes with becoming a mother. Her journey into journalism began in childhood, flipping through newspapers alongside her grandfather. “I used to check every day to see if there was any news about my village,” she says. “That’s how I learned to read—and why I never stopped chasing stories.” Back then, she considered catering or tourism as possible careers. But journalism struck a different chord. “I didn’t want a job that just logged hours. I wanted one that made me feel something.”

DNPA flags unauthorised use of news content by ChatGPT in Delhi high court

By Staff writer in Media News on
The Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) has accused OpenAI’s ChatGPT of using copyrighted news content without authorisation, calling it a threat to the sustainability of digital journalism.  According to Bar & Bench, Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for DNPA in the Delhi High Court, argued that ChatGPT reproduces journalistic work without licenses, including quotes from news interviews, and likened it to accessing paid legal databases without permission. He added that even momentary storage of such content by AI models amounts to copyright infringement.  DNPA, which includes The Times Group, NDTV, The Hindu, and The Indian Express, is intervening in ANI’s ongoing copyright case against OpenAI.  Justice Amit Bansal noted the legal complexity, saying: “This is a classic case where a law last amended in 2012 is trying to keep pace with technology.” The matter will be heard next on August 18, September 12, and September 23.  OpenAI maintains
