It wasn’t. Friends from Mizoram and fellow journalists were congratulating him -- the BBC documentary he had worked on had just won an International Emmy.
HC Vanlalruata, his colleague and co-contributor, found out a little later, through a message from the BBC crew’s internal group. “We were nominated on May 17,” he recalls, “but the thought that we’d actually bag the award never really crossed my mind.”
Their film -- “Fuelling Myanmar’s Civil War: Russia Behind the Junta’s Air Power” -- revealed how Russian fighter jets and military training have supercharged the Myanmar junta’s campaign of violence since the 2021 coup. The 23-minute docum...
