Fell and The Age/SMH grab the Gold at 2025 Samsung IT Journalism Awards

ABC’s Julian Fell and The Age/SMH have taken home Gold Lizzies at the 23rd Annual Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards this evening.  As well as the Best Journalist win, Fell also won the Lizzies for both Best Security Journalist and Best News Journalist categories.  In the winner’s circle for The Age/SMH, Tim Biggs and David Swan’s efforts were recognised in their winning submission for Best Consumer Technology Coverage, while their colleagues, Kate McClymont and Nick McKenzie’s work alongside The Fin’s Max Mason and Tess Bennett saw them take home Best News Coverage too.  Recognised for 30 years of CommsDay, Grahame Lynch took home the Pioneer of IT Journalism award as new awards, Best Science Journalist and Top Newsmaker Awards were awarded to Nature’s Smriti Mallapaty and IREN co-founder Daniel Roberts. Prasar Bharati to begin large-scale trials of direct-to-mobile model

Prasar Bharati will soon launch large-scale trials of its Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) business model, with bidding expected to open within the next year. The testing phase will begin with an initial rollout across 19 cities and is expected to run for three to five years. Speaking on the sidelines of FICCI Frames 2025, CEO Gaurav Dwivedi told Storyboard18 that the model aims to align with changing consumption habits and enhance digital news delivery through Prasar Bharati’s mobile app. “We are seeing a marked shift in the consumption pattern of audiences, especially in the younger age group. The D2M platform is a way of bridging the gap between broadcast and broadband,” he said.

Radio Margaret River launches FM with Ian Smith Special

Radio Margaret River (RMR) will begin FM broadcasting tonight at 7 pm WA time, featuring a two-hour special by long-time presenter Ian Smith, a passionate music historian, RadioInfo reported. Ian has been with the station since its online-only launch four years ago. The event will be attended by CBAA CEO Jon Bisset to mark the station's expanded reach across Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River and Hamelin Bay.
