The 92nd Indian Air Force Day celebrations which took place in Chennai yesterday, October 6, turned tragic as heatstroke claimed five lives, and over 150 people were either hospitalised or received first aid amid chaos at Marina Beach. The event, held for the first time in 21 years, drew over 15 lakh spectators. Despite the anticipation, reports from The Indian Express' Arun Janardhanan and Vivek Narayanan and Preetika from Times of India indicated that the arrangements made by the state government, particularly crowd control, traffic management, and public transportation, fell short of the requirements, causing a massive breakdown in infrastructure.
