The Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) has accused OpenAI’s ChatGPT of using copyrighted news content without authorisation, calling it a threat to the sustainability of digital journalism.  According to Bar & Bench, Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for DNPA in the Delhi High Court, argued that ChatGPT reproduces journalistic work without licenses, including quotes from news interviews, and likened it to accessing paid legal databases without permission. He added that even momentary storage of such content by AI models amounts to copyright infringement.  DNPA, which includes The Times Group, NDTV, The Hindu, and The Indian Express, is intervening in ANI’s ongoing copyright case against OpenAI.  Justice Amit Bansal noted the legal complexity, saying: “This is a classic case where a law last amended in 2012 is trying to keep pace with technology.” The matter will be heard next on August 18, September 12, and September 23.  OpenAI maintains
