The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) held its annual Golden Target Awards last night at the Sydney Opera House, with what is reportedly the largest-ever field of nominees spread across 29 categories.
“There is no higher honour in Australia for Public Relations and Communication professionals than winning a National Golden Target Award, and this year the Awards attracted a record number of entries from all sectors of the industry, and from every State and Territory in the country,” said PRIA CEO Anne Howard.
“During the past twelve months, PRIA drew on the expertise, knowledge and experience of senior industry professionals to completely overhaul the Golden Target Awards to ensure they reflect contemporary practice in today’s fast changing industry and remain the most prestigious and hard to win accolade in the PR and communication calendar.”
Red Agency went on a roll as in the recent State Awards, winning the Large Consultancy of the Year title, a Future Leaders gong for Ayla Fitzgibbon, and three campaign awards.
FULLER Brand + Communication and Sauce Communications pocketed the Medium Consultancy of the Year trophy, with Sauce winning for the second year in a row.
“This is possibly the most exciting win Sauce has had to date. It is an honour to be recognised within this industry, and it is thanks to the dedication and teamwork that I have the pleasure of seeing across our offices every day,” said agency director Liane Sayer-Roberts.
The Small Consultancy of the Year honours went to Elevate Communication and VIVA! Communications, which was a first-time finalist. “Wow! This is an absolute honour and career-defining moment,” said VIVA! principal/owner Kirsten Bruce on the sudden triumph.
For the In-house PR Teams of the Year, the Corporate title went to The Finder.com.au and the Government award was bestowed on the WA Public Transport Authority’s Corporate Communications division.
The Sefiani Communications Group also shone on stage taking ownership of five campaign awards, including the National Campaign of the Year gong.
On the winning campaigns, Sefiani managing director Robyn Sefiani said: “Working closely with the courageous and determined Brieana Rose and pro bono legal adviser Fiona McLay to achieve legislative change for image-abuse offences has been both inspirational and a privilege. Global digital agency Mirum, part of the JWT/WPPAUNZ group, has opened for business in Australia with new offices at Flinders Street in Melbourne and Pyrmont St in Pyrmont, NSW.
The agency, now known as Mirum Australia, was officially activated following the successful integration of local digital company Webling into the Mirum network, with Webling MD Claire van Heyningen to helm the new company.

The Sefiani Communications Group has joined forces with the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation on a low-bono awareness project for pancreatic cancer.
The new project will involve a sustained engagement of government officials, influencers and media relations to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research.
Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation board member Peter Hosking said the Sefiani Communication Group’s experience in positive campaigns was critical to landing the account. He also noted the low survivability rates of pancreatic cancer as a pressing matter for more research into the illness.

WPP AUNZ firm Pulse has welcomed three companies into its client base – all from different industries.
RACV (Roadside Assist, Car Loans, Insurance and Travel) was tapped for the agency’s home living practice, during which it will handle overall communications for the company’s Home Division. One project already underway is the RACV Tiny Home, a concept smart-living design crafted in collaboration with veteran architect Peter Maddison.
Kitchen appliance manufacturer KitchenAid is another home living practice client for Pulse. The new partnership calls for the agency to run a brand awareness campaign for the American company’s centennial anniversary.
For the food product category, Pulse is the agency of record for frozen dessert maker Halo Top Creamery. The first undertaking under the partnership was a media/influencer event for Halo Top’s “House of Happiness” campaign, which had guests showcasing various things that make people happy,

Edelman has won representation for online food delivery company Deliveroo and mobile transportation platform DiDi.
For Deliveroo, the Edelman team will handle corporate communications and public affairs in Australia. The company recently made the news with offers to take in riders of rival company Foodora, which is shutting down next week.
The DiDi account will involve work on the corporate and brand communications fronts. DiDi recently set up shop in Melbourne as its second overseas branch (after Mexico).

Mark Renshaw is vacating his position as global brand practice head at international PR firm Edelman.
As covered by The Holmes Report, Renshaw issued an internal memo stating he was going back to his family in Sydney, Australia.
He joined the Chicago-based company in early 2017 after 18 years with advertising agency Leo Burnett - but much of that overall time was spent abroad.

The PR conglomerate formerly known as the Hausmann Group have started a new journey as “The Haus” with a fresh batch of clients for two of its agencies.
The company stated that its communications brand and reputation consultancy, Illuminate, has been tasked to manage corporate communications and PR work for the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association.
Healthcare consultancy Health Haus will handle social media, stakeholder management, and media relations for online healthcare marketplace Tender Healthcare.
